30 Before 30 Revision...

I had a sense of urgency to fill up my 30 before 30 list on my birthday so I could start my first day of 29 with a new and slightly exciting purpose, however in my haste, I actually left out a few important ones for me and filled them with filler things.  I am going to remedy that right now.

15. "Go to a concert at the revolution" will be changed to Swim with Dolphins.  This is something I've dreamed of doing since I was a little kid.  No time like the present to check that one off the list.

and

25. "Watch the movie The Bucket List" will be changed to Take a Flight Lesson.  I'm not a good flier and always thought that if I knew how the plane worked and could fly one, I'd have less of a fear.  We'll see if this logic pans out.

Stay tuned to see how each of these adventures actually goes down!

30 Things Every Woman Should Have and Should Know by the Time She's 30

So apparently, this idea is really not original.  Here is an article that was posted back in 2007 in Glamor magazine.  It's of the same vain though not entirely the same concept.  I'm happy to say, I can check a lot of these bad boys off.  Enjoy...

30 Things Every Woman Should Have and Should Know by the Time She's 30

By 30, you should have:

  1. One old boyfriend you can imagine going back to and one who reminds you of how far you’ve come.
  2. A decent piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in your family.
  3. Something perfect to wear if the employer or man of your dreams wants to see you in an hour.
  4. A purse, a suitcase and an umbrella you’re not ashamed to be seen carrying.
  5. A youth you’re content to move beyond.
  6. A past juicy enough that you’re looking forward to retelling it in your old age.
  7. The realization that you are actually going to have an old age—and some money set aside to help fund it.
  8. An e-mail address, a voice mailbox and a bank account—all of which nobody has access to but you.
  9. A résumé that is not even the slightest bit padded.
  10. One friend who always makes you laugh and one who lets you cry.
  11. A set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill and a black lace bra.
  12. Something ridiculously expensive that you bought for yourself, just because you deserve it.
  13. The belief that you deserve it.
  14. A skin-care regimen, an exercise routine and a plan for dealing with those few other facets of life that don’t get better after 30.
  15. A solid start on a satisfying career, a satisfying relationship and all those other facets of life that do get better.

By 30, you should know:

  1. How to fall in love without losing yourself.
  2. How you feel about having kids.
  3. How to quit a job, break up with a man and confront a friend without ruining the friendship.
  4. When to try harder and when to walk away.
  5. How to kiss in a way that communicates perfectly what you would and wouldn’t like to happen next.
  6. The names of: the secretary of state, your great-grandmother and the best tailor in town.
  7. How to live alone, even if you don’t like to.
  8. How to take control of your own birthday.
  9. That you can’t change the length of your calves, the width of your hips or the nature of your parents.
  10. That your childhood may not have been perfect, but it’s over.
  11. What you would and wouldn’t do for money or love.
  12. That nobody gets away with smoking, drinking, doing drugs or not flossing for very long.
  13. Who you can trust, who you can’t and why you shouldn’t take it personally.
  14. Not to apologize for something that isn’t your fault.
  15. Why they say life begins at 30.

30 Things Before 30

I have to be honest, this idea is not an original. A good friend of mine turn 30 last year and she started a blog doing the same sort of thing. When I saw it, I thought it was a fantastic idea. My plan is obviously to accomplish all of the things on the list in 365 days and update you on my progress and the experience. So here we go...

  1. LVC
  2. Go on 30 dates with 30 different guys, unless of course one of them happen to be Mr. Right
  3. Run a marathon
  4. Take surfing lessons
  5. Take golfing lessons
  6. Go to dinner by myself
  7. Learn to cook something new
  8. Travel somewhere I have yet to go
  9. Hike in Osceola National Forest
  10. Paddle Board
  11. Take the Jet ski out one weekend
  12. Audition for something
  13. Lose the last 10lbs
  14. Rent a convertible for a weekend
  15. Go to a concert at the revolution
  16. Make a new friend
  17. Go camping
  18. Throw a murder mystery party
  19. Join a tennis league
  20. Pick a random point on the map and drive there
  21. Commit for 2 weeks to workout before work instead of after
  22. Do the 5:30 am run class
  23. Go deep sea fishing
  24. Really quit smoking
  25. Watch the movie The Bucket List
  26. Take Maddox to the dog beach at least once every other month.
  27. Journal at least once a month - which might not sound like a lot but I'll go months without doing it.
  28. Volunteer for something: (i.e. - work at a soup kitchen, work with habitat for humanity)
  29. Learn to speak Spanish - please don't think I'll be an expert by the time I'm 30 but hopefully I'll know more than Hola
  30. Do a pullup
And there you have...my 30 before 30 list. Some of the things will be easy, some of them will be hard. We'll see in a year if I've checked them all off the list. It's the first day of the rest of my life people :)

Working and Packing

I am working from home today so I can pack and get things done around the house before I leave. I think the firm should move to home offices. I find it to be quite nice, although the productivity level would most likely suffer. However if you think about the cost savings on the firms part it might be something to look into.

I hit the road for South Florida in two days. I can’t believe it. Now I have to find something else I want and go for it. It’s strange to think that everything I worked for ended in a year. Granted, I made the decision to move. I am in no way done with New York but work at the moment is making it intolerable.

My thought process behind the whole thing was: what’s the point of paying to work in New York. I could live at home for a much cheaper price, work less, and actually enjoy life. I moved up here to get the New York experience and for the past year and a half that is exactly what I got. Granted I didn’t actually move up here until a year ago but I have been working in New York since January of 2008.

I had to ask myself: is it worth the cost to live up here when I don’t really get to enjoy the city as much as I thought I would. You know the conclusion I ultimately came to.

I have been very reflective these past couple of days. I was actually talking to a friend of mine and told him all the things I had been thinking and trying to do in my life. I realized it sounded much like a new year’s resolution. Then I thought, why can’t we make mid-year resolutions, there is Christmas in July.

I must get back to packing and working. Hope all is well with every one!

Last Saturday in The City

I started packing. It’s very sad. I started in the living room. I can’t believe I am leaving.

I was going to pack during the day but it was a crisp blue sky and I thought, why not pack later and enjoy a nice Saturday in the city. I had gone to the Yankee game last night and was nursing a slight hangover. I knew there was a street fair going on as I passed it on my way to staples to get packing supplies.

So I got dressed and hit the streets with my camera to enjoy my last weekend in the city. I started out at the street fair and bought a cute ring. Since the weekend before was very touristy I had seen just about all the street fair I needed to and got bored quickly as it was mostly filled with the same vendors from the weekend before.

I thought about going to time square but didn’t feel like walking that far west. I also hate the tourists there. Instead, I went to my favorite place in the city…Central Park.

I took pictures of various landscapes and then found myself at the Central Park Zoo. Since I had never been inside I figured I would pony up the $10 and see what the Zoo had to offer. It was quite small compared to the zoos in Florida but this is to be expected when land prices here are insane.

I hit the seals up first as I do enjoy them. The penguin exhibit smelled so bad and was packed so I left quickly. The polar bear station made very happy and I also realized that in my next life I might want to come back as one of them.

The monkey exhibit (one of my favorites) was awesome. A mom monkey had a little baby not that long ago and they were on a rock holding each other. When baby monkey acted up the mother would sit on it’s head until it calmed down. Then she would embrace baby monkey and touch its face. It was quite endearing.

After the zoo, I hit up FAO Schwartz. It’s another favorite place of mine. When I was younger and my grandmother was alive, she would take us here or Toys”R”Us and tell use we could have one thing, anything in the store. I of course took it upon myself to do the same as an adult. I hit up the candy area. They had a gummy bear display where you could pick individual flavors. I hit up the clear gummy bear as I believe it is the best.

I wrapped up my day there and headed home. I procrastinated for quite some time before starting the packing process and you could say by sitting here typing, I am once again putting it off. It just sucks. I love New York and the fact that I have 4 days left makes me sad.

Been There, Done That

Well....I made it in the NYC and now I'm going back home. August 1st is the move date. I can't believe I am coming back but it's for the better.

I don't think I have gotten everything out of New York that I was looking for but I did fill my dance card quite nicely and I have made some amazing new friends. Don't count me out just yet, if circumstances change you could find me back up here just as quickly as you can "Danielle flys by the seat of her pants in life".

The other awesome thing is my company has pretty much told me that I will be working 50% from Florida and roughly 50% from New York. This works out well because I will be getting to be in New York without the taxes and getting paid for living expenses. Pretty sweet deal I worked out.

I spent the weekend in VA for the 4th. We had a blast. Sad to leave but enjoyed every minute of my time there. Other then that, nothing is really new. I just have to figure out my moving plans. Thank God for Steve and John. My two moving men :)

Jessica and Damon came to visit this weekend. It was a nice relaxing one. Funny I spent more of my waking hours in Brooklyn then in the city. Today, I was supposed to meet them down in Chinatown. Now you would think a New Yorker would be able to navigate the subways better then out of towners but I am here to tell you that is not the case. I don’t do the public transportation that well. So, on my quest downtown, I wound up going uptown. It took two stops before realizing I was going in the opposite direction of my desired location. Of course, when I got to the right stop I had to wait twenty minutes for the next downtown train. Damn Subway karma!

There is talk of me moving back in August. I flip flop every day. We shall see what happens. I won’t know anything until June which just so happens to be right around the corner.

Owning something excites me but moving really doesn’t. At least I will have Maddox back : ) That make me happy.
